Henry Martin Tendo’s political journey began at Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT), where he lost the guild president seat, but became one after joining the newly-established Seeta University in Mukono District.
Who is Tendo?

Henry Martin Tendo, 24, was born to Doreen Rebecca Bamwitirewa, a nursing officer at Mukono General Hospital, and Steven Sseruwagi of Kasangalabi Parish in Mukono
“Growing up, I expressed interest in leadership, but my father encouraged me to shift my energy to education,” he recounts, adding that in high school, he was voted timekeeper and he served until the end of his term.
Pursuing a Bachelor of Business Computing and Information Technology, at Seeta University, Tendo has distinguished himself with integrity, academic focus, and an unwavering passion for student weltare.
His political journey
From high school where he contested to be a timekeeper, and went through because of his timeliness, Tendo went through because he managed to convince his fellow students, due to his eloquence. While pursuing his diploma at UICI, he contested as guild president, but lost.
“I tried as hard as I could, invested a lot of money in campaigns, but never went through,” he recounts. Tendo says he spent Shsil m on posters, t-shirts, fuel, and other logistics. He, however, claims his opponents spread propaganda against him, thus the loss. Tendo later joined Kyambogo University, but feared contesting for any position due to previous experience. However, he manned up when he joined the newly established institution and contested as a guild president.
His mother’s unending support
“During the elections, my mother greatly supported me and encouraged me,” he says.
Tendo says without her support, he would never have won the seat. Despite the many bills that piled upon his mother, she supported her son financially, and told him not to shy away from asking for support.
Tendo’s father, on the other hand, being a leader himselt, knew the burden that came with leadership and politics, and discouraged his son from participating in the race.

Besides, some close friends never took the ever jolly young man seriously, and thought it was just a joke.
Tendo leaned on his mother for financial and moral support and she did not disappoint.
“Only a mother can stand with you when everyone else does not,” he proudly says.
